Details

Feel the balance of power and finesse aboard Trek's Madone 5.9. The power part comes from Trek's class-leading OCLV Black carbon frame, which boasts ingenious technology for a superior ride, such as a 90mm-wide bottom bracket for maximum efficiency, and the E2 headtube that's a whopping 1 1/2-inches in diameter at the base for precise steering and a super stiff front end. Finesse comes in the artful lay up of carbon, the integrated headset and bottom bracket cups with bearings that simply press into the frame saving weight and reducing maintenance, and a seatmast that saves even more weight, while making every ride comfortable. Nothing less than Dura-Ace compact cranks grace your frame, and Dura-Ace/Ultegra gearing fires off perfect shifts. Plus, Race Lite and X Lite components make the 5.9 perfect for the serious racer and casual rider alike.

Bontrager Race Lite Carbon fork

Bontrager's Race Lite Carbon Fork (left) uses a standard 1 1/8-inch steerer diameter at the top in combination with a 1 1/2-inch bottom diameter to increase fork stiffness and strength. This ingenious design also significantly reduces the weight thanks to its oversize bottom, which allows using a hollow aluminum crown bonded to the carbon legs (as opposed to the solid aluminum crowns found on most traditional forks; shown on the right). Trek's oversize E2 head tube adds strength and stiffness. The result is an unbelievably stiff and super-light front end.

Trek's Madone features a unique bottom bracket (image, right) that's 90mm wide (traditional ones are 68mm wide). This wide bottom bracket lets Trek build the frame with larger tubes for increased power transfer. Plus, the 90mm bottom bracket is machined so that the bearings can be placed directly into the frame (image) saving weight (due to fewer parts), ensuring additional pedaling efficiency and simplifying maintenance and repair.

Instead of a conventional seatpost, Trek's Madone boasts a seatmast (image). Compared to traditional seatposts (image, left) and also modern integrated seatmasts, this engineering masterpiece boosts strength and pedaling efficiency, saves weight, increases compliance a whopping 39% (for maximum comfort), and offers all the adjustability you'll ever need (no cutting required). It lets your Trek fit in a UPS-compatible box for shipping, too!
