2011 Trek 7.9 FX

Across town or across campus, for fun or for fitness, Trek's 7.9 FX takes you there with comfort and speed. Its FX TCT Carbon frame is super light, strong and responsive, so you can sprint for the light and fly up the hills. All that speed is ultra comfortable though. You'll ride longer with the IsoZone elastomer-equipped rear end and carbon Bontrager fork that cancel out road chatter for an ultra-smooth ride. Plus, the bike's precision 30-speed Shimano drivetrain lets you conquer hills both up and down, while the powerful Tektro brakes provide top-notch stopping power. And, you can't beat the full host of Bontrager Race Lite components including a carbon bar and seatpost. This sweet bike even sports clipless pedals!

    Comments:

This bicycle tops off at 22.5 inches (57 cm) so for a 6'3" person, this is not the bike to own. The bike shop swapped the stem for one that was 45 degrees, and raised the seat post about 10 inches. Despite those changes, my wrists would hurt and fingers would go numb after riding less than two miles. Also the brakes are really cheap and have dismal stopping power. I returned the bike and bought 2012 Specialized Sirrus Pro that comes in 58, 61 and 64 cm. It fits perfectly.

      Comments:

I have had 2 of these frames now, both have the same problem. The use of poor frame fittings. The small threaded studs inserted into the frame have no keying on them when bonded in, so fall out under use. Also the brake cable exits that are screwed in are a weak point. I wouldn't normally complain, but for the price it shouldn't happen. My rack mounts have now come out of the second frame and I hardly put the thing under load with a very small bag. Other than that, it's a fine bike. Have ridden it from London to Paris and other long distance rides with no problems. I did change the saddle though.

        Comments:

A great bike. I upgraded from a 10 year old super light aluminum triple 7.7 FX which at that time was top line. The 7.9 is noticibly lighter and smoother riding. I opted for the Ultegra double compact which is performing very well. I just finished the MS 150 and found it comfortable for the long haul and very dependable. The new saddle takes some getting used to. The bike is attractive in the matt black and now with 1200 miles in 6 weeks of riding I definitly would recommend the 7.9FX to anyone looking for a high a quality bike capable of long or short rides.

I have always been a road bike enthusiast but due to back issues found the bent over posture of a road bike uncomfortable. I acquired this bike just over a year ago and have been very happy with its performance. It comes very close to the performance of a traditional road bike (the tires inflate to 110 pounds etc)but is more user friendly for the middle age crowd. i had a handelbar extension put on to make it a bit more upright as well. i have put over 1000 hard miles (all hills) on the bike without any issues at all.

              Comments:

This is a beautiful bike that doesn't know what it wants to be. For nearly $3000, you get an excellent carbon frame and fork, but 2nd tier components and lousy brakes (should have put disc brakes on!). I like the bike, but it's WAY overpriced for the components and brakes they put on it. I'm going to be selling it, then purchasing a nice hybrid WITH disc brakes and WITH good components. Great idea Trek, very pook execution. You cheaped out but STILL priced the bike high.

                Comments:

I absolutely love this bike and also own a specialized Roubaix, Trek 2300, Miyata triplecross tour bike, and specialized Rock Hopper mtn. bike. The 7.9 if definitely my favorite ride. The carbon frame gives me smooth riding and I find myself not wanting to end my rides. I'm older and needed the upright position of a flat bar for longer rides, but the responsiveness of a true road bike...and I wanted carbon. I have not regretted at all the extra expense of the 7.9 [would have regretted not getting it]. This is a tight bike, well put together and FAST!! It is great in traffic as a commuter, fast on training and group rides, sturdy enough for light touring...it has it all. But the best I can describe the 7.9 is that it is a pure JOY to ride. If you can handle the money and want a flatbar road bike, I heartily recommend as the 7.9 FX. I couldn't imagine it getting much better.

                  Comments:

Got back into cycling the last 6 months, after a long break since the 1980's. Was looking for a new bike- test-drove a variety of road bikes but didn't like that "stretched-out" feeling and it bothered my neck to have to look up and enjoy the passing scenery. Test-drove the FX line and knew it was the one for me. Decided to spring for the ultimate carbon-frame 7.9FX. Absolutely no regrets- it is comfortable, lightweight, fast, and highly maneuverable while out on the bike trail or negotiating heavy commuter traffic in the city. An absolute joy to ride and very addicting! How else can I explain why I get out of bed early on weekends, just to enjoy long rides on my 7.9FX? Always enjoyed sleeping in, but no more!

This is my first bike in 15 years and I cant believe how much improvement has been made, you don't need to get off and push to get up a hill anymore :-) the wife insisted we need daily exercise and cycling seemed the most enjoyable way to keep fit, I bought my wife the 7.5 FX and I got the 7.9 FX and I have to say that this is a great way to stay fit. The only problem we both had were the seats, after the first day we both bought new seats and now ride at least an hour per day.
